Call It Old Fashioned, But A Hand-Written Menu Is Pretty Amazing

July 3, 2015

After reading my posts, you will probably start to see a pattern on how much we dine. Food is so important and a great meal can really leave a lasting impression on a place. That being said, we ended up having a rather disappointing breakfast at Cafe Avocado despite the positive reviews and suggestions to go there.

Our breakfasts were both dry, bland and overpriced. The cafe swears by its healthy menu however after grudgingly paying over the odds for our meals, we vowed not to return. Thankfully our next morning we decided to try what the Betelnut cafe had to offer after only ever having evening meals there.

Safe to say it was a pleasant experience and I choose probably the best breakfast super smoothie going. It had everything good in it – Banana, Cashew Nut Butter, Honey, Milk & Flaxseed, it was so tasty! Plus a side of Toast with Scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and mushrooms. Breakfast is becoming my most favourite meal here in Bali! The Betelnut cafe is a favourite choice however the place is unbelievably popular and getting a table, breakfast, noon or night is now proving difficult.

We FINALLY found a great gym in Kuta. Hammerhead Gym right on the sunset strip is fantastic and has pretty much everything we were after. It was about time as well as I don’t think I could indulge just as much as I had been doing without the guilt creeping up on me. The gym is fully air-coned and has great music and a fun atmosphere.

For 495,000 (£23) IDR Each we booked 7 sessions to keep us going for a short while. The gym is pricier than else where but I’d say it’s worth it for the choice of equipment on offer. What is also great is that they make smoothies at the reception area including protein choices to fuel up after a good workout.

Dinner was at a cute little place a bit further out called Millys Warung. Another place tucked away which we would never of found if it wasn’t for our good pal Trip Advisor. The restaurant had a lovely setting with only a couple of tables and what was most unique were the hand written menus!

There was a surprising amount of choice from such a small place and the little food comments in the menu made it feel quite personal. I chose the chicken satay with rice and some spring rolls to start. The presentation was great and the food tasted very homey and freshly made. Music really set the place and you definitely felt relaxed being there. We enjoyed our time there so much we even thanked the chef through the small cubby hole. After noticing that they also do breakfast, we thought we would give that a try in the future.

Nice touch

We drove back to the apartment after a wonderful meal and as we were slightly further out, I got a chance to see more of Bali at night. Funnily, it is still as energetic as it is through the day and the locals never seem to stop working. Stores are still open, builders keep building and the street stalls stay open throughout the evening. You feel so safe at night here and it’s great to be able to scoot around no problem (except for some bugs in the face) and catch what goes on into the evenings. I’m really starting to feel like I could live here!

Never want to leave

Thanks a million for keeping up to date with us. See you all soon!

Lots of Love
