BANG, It’s July Fourth

July 4, 2015

Who would of thought Bali would be so into their 4th of July Celebrations. I’m not entirely sure if there was a coincidence or not but the streets were definitely lined with locals dressed in traditional Balinese clothing ready to celebrate. From the comfort of our bed, we could hear prayers and singing into the night. Suddenly I was awoken with the loudest of bangs and jumped pretty much out of my skin.

For some reason, it felt as if the fireworks were loud enough to be in our room. We listened intently as the display went on for a while before drifting back off.  Our day has been filled with yet again more feasting. Sadly our previous evening meal at Millys Warung overshadowed our breakfast there.

The kitchen staff obviously change between day-time and night-time and our breakfast was rather underwhelming. The orders were wrong and half the meal was stone cold while the other half scalding- complete different experience to the night time entertainment. Thankfully, the owner was interviewing a chef as we ate so I will reserve any judgment until we try it out again. Hopefully it was an off-day as we both were really rooting for this little gem of a place.

Back at home, we chilled by the pool and Gary cracked on with some work as I finished my first travel read- ‘The Lie’ by C.L Taylor. I will be giving some book reviews throughout this blog as I read so hopefully I can give some inspiration to anyone looking for quick book ideas.

This book was actually really good despite being quite an easy read. The story surrounds a girl called Emma and her 3 friends who embark on the holiday of a life time to Nepal where they stay in a spiritual retreat. The book continuously jumps between 5 years earlier to the present day where Emma is now known as Jane and you are gripped with the story that unfolds. It gets quite dark and creepy at times but the twists will keep you going until the end. I would recommend it to anyone who fancies a gripping holiday read.

After having another chilled working sort of day, we decided to blow the daily budget and treat ourselves to a fancier dinner. We tried out a new restaurant called Scratch – The name really says it all as everything is completely made from scratch as you order.

It did not disappoint and I devoured probably the best burger I have ever tasted. Every bite was like heaven and I did not want it to end. I chose the ‘If It Ain’t Broke Burger’ and there was absolutely no fixing needed.

Gary choose an incredible jambalaya pasta with fresh prawn, spinach and chorizo which again, was flawless. We finished the meal by sharing a New York brownie with homemade peanut butter ice-cream. I probably could write and entire post on how good this ice cream actually was… I’m already craving more! I would go back in a heartbeat just to sample some more.

Rule number 1 with dessert: Never share because someone always gets less of the ice cream.

The restaurant vibe was so cool and the interior decor was so nice and contemporary in comparison with some other places we have been. The bathrooms were quite a treat with candles and fresh flower petals scattered around (a rare phenomenon for an Indonesian public rest room). We were even given free monkey nuts on our table which was a nice addition to the experience.

The day really did go out with a bang after that earthquake shattering noise that woke us both up but in a good way. It’s all part of the experience 🙂

Thanks again for reading, Speak soon friends

Lots of Love

Xx
